A Banner Year For Minneapolis Sailing In The Works

This is going to be a GREAT year for sailing in Minneapolis. Last week the buoy drawing was held for the Chain of Lakes buoys, and FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MEMORY, ALL the buoys were sold. In fact, there was 384 applicants for the 349 buoys. The MPRB manager cannot recall that ever happening.

Personally, I think it is a combination of factors:

1) An interest in 'green' sports
2) The low-cost / great deal of the buoys
3) A pick-up in interest in sailing in general

This is all good, and I'd like to think that this little blog has something to do with it. I created it last year with a goal to promote sailing in Minneapolis. And, for the first several months of the year, the site was getting up to 100 visits a day, some being returning visitors, but many coming from Google searches looking for 'Minneapolis sailboat buoys' or the like. I'm just glad the lakes will be filled with boats. Lets make sure we are out they enjoying them, and be positive ambassadors for the sport! See you on the water in a week or so...
