Milfoil Update

As anyone who has been to the Lake Harriet dock can attest, this year is going to be a banner year for milfoil. The bright, warm, sunny spring allowed the plants to sprout and grow quickly. Normally the sailing on Lake Harriet is not effect much by the weed because of the deep water, but the dock area is vulnerable, and up to yesterday it was a solid mat from the ramp to the end of the dock. Happily, the MPRB got the memo, and were out yesterday cutting it back. The picture above caught the harvester crew working hard in the rain. Because the city now only has one harvester for the chain of lakes, it splits time between Harriet and Calhoun, where the milfoil intrudes on the sailing area due to shallow water.
